Rise in Toyota Hilux Thefts

Vehicle Theft Warning – Toyota Hilux Owners (North Yorkshire)

We are advising Toyota Hilux owners to remain vigilant following a recent increase in vehicle thefts across the North Yorkshire area. Hilux vehicles are being specifically targeted due to their desirability and ease of resale.

To reduce the risk of theft, owners are strongly encouraged to use additional security measures alongside factory‑fitted protections. Recommended options include:

Steering wheel locks (e.g. Disklok or similar heavy‑duty locks)

Pedal boxes or clamps to prevent use of the accelerator and brake

Aftermarket immobilisers, including CAN bus–resistant systems

OBD port locks to prevent key reprogramming

Vehicle tracking systems (Thatcham‑approved S5 or S7 trackers)

Secure parking, ideally in a locked garage or well‑lit area

CCTV or doorbell cameras covering driveways

Faraday pouches for keyless entry fobs to block signal relay theft

Please also remember to lock your vehicle at all times, remove valuables, and report any suspicious behaviour immediately to the police via 999 in an emergency or 101 for non‑urgent concerns.

Taking layered security measures significantly reduces the likelihood of your vehicle being targeted.
